TCM Practitioner (Herbalist) is a Profession of practitioner of herbology

In a broad meaning, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an ancestry science which studies human physiology and pathology to prevent and heal diseases. It has 5 categories: Acupuncture and Moxa (Moxibustion), Herbology, Qigong and meditation, Diet therapy and massage. In a narrow meaning, TCM means herbal medicine, a branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This narrow meaning is common known in western. Follow this reason, we call herbalist as TCM Practitioner.

Acupuncture is the most common known portion by western. It is so common, sometime people thinks that acupuncture is the broad meaning of TCM; actually it is only one branch of TCM.

Herbal medicine is another major portion. There are much more people use herbal medicine than any other TCM treatments in China and South Asia where the TCM Originally started. After new technology applying to the preparation of herbal medicine, more and more people have the chance to try and use herbal medicine. We get a lot of benefits from these nature products almost without any side affections.

TCM Practitioner (Herbalist) is practitioner with knowledge of herbology. He/She is a therapist who provides front-line health-care, who evaluates the vital energy of their patients using the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and who performs TCM treatments with the aim of improving patients' health.

The TCM Practitioner (Herbalist) works in collaboration with other health professionals and refers patients with health problems that exceed the limits of Herbology to qualified health-care providers.

In their practice, the TCM Practitioner (Herbalist) encounters patients who suffer from a wide range of health problems. The TCM Practitioner (Herbalist) takes note of the patient's medical and family history then proceeds to assess the state of his or her vital energy, devises a treatment plan, applies it and completes the follow-up.

The TCM Practitioner (Herbalist) must at all times respect the rules of asepsis and the standards of practice set out by government.

Generally, the TCM Practitioner (Herbalist) works in a private clinic, herbal store which he or she manages.

Program Objectives

The program aims to train individuals specifically to practice TCM. It is hoped however that graduates will be equipped with a strong enough understanding of the principles and tenets of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The program aims to train students a multidisciplinary clinical approach in so that they learn to collaborate and exchange ideas with other health professionals. Students are taught basic biomedical knowledge so they can develop a work method that takes into consideration all factors affecting their patients' health. As first-line health-care providers, TCM Practitioners are called upon to treat a wide range of clinical cases and therefore require a solid understanding of the various risks to their patient health.

Specific aims of the program:

To train TCM Practitioners who respect the rules of hygiene, safety and ethics, and who practice their profession in compliance with the laws and regulations that apply to their situation

1.      To train student to master the knowledge of foundation of TCM.

2.      To train student multiple TCM skill, especially the herbology skill.

3.      To train student to understand syndromes of patients.

4.      To train student the ability to diagnose and make differentiation properly.

5.      To train student to make treatment plan for patients

6.      To train student to implement property treatment plan.

7.      To train student to make record of treatment and follows up case.

8.      To train student To enable students to develop the necessary management and entrepreneurship skills for their future clinics and herbal store

9.      To train student the ability to improve their skill in the future to reach a higher leave and cooperate and exchange ideas with other professional practitioner.

TCM Practitioner: a Demanding Program

More and more people love to use Traditional Chinese Medicine. There is a lot of TCM education institution in North America. But there is very little in Quebec. TCM Practitioner (Herbalist) would be a hot demand in Quebec. Our public will benefit from this amazing ancient herb.

The TCM Practitioner (Herbalist) program was created using the Ministry of Education's guidelines.
It is designed so that students acquire a set of competencies or integrated skills. Each course is formulated in a way that clearly sets out course objectives and the standards by which student performance is evaluated. The program is conceived to take into account training needs as well as workplace reality.

The program-specific component of the program is made up 2280 hours of classroom training and contains courses in TCM, Western Sciences, communication and counseling techniques, and the management of a private clinic.

Program Requirements

The TCM Practitioner (Herbalist) Program seeks serious, dynamic and motivated candidates who truly wish to build successful careers in TCM Practitioner.

The 3-year program is very dense, and the classes and coursework demand a great deal of time and energy. The program is built around a set of telescoping skills and abilities, where each semester provides the foundations for the next. Therefore, it is essential that students integrate knowledge and skills at each step of the six semesters.

The TCM Practitioner (Herbalist) program gives equal importance to specific-training courses as it does to classes in biology and Western medical pathology. It is expected that students fully integrate these notions into their practice of TCM.

Curriculum and Course Load

TCM Practitioner (Herbalist) is a full-time program for all students, including those who have previously attended post-secondary institutions such as colleges or universities.

The curriculum and course order are mandatory as they are designed in a way that enables students to properly integrate knowledge with skills.
